Classes completed the "Adam's Presidency" quiz. Once all quizzes were handed in, classes reviewed the quiz. Discussed what homework is due on Thursday.
Classes discussed the election of 1800, and how it was a turning point in elections in America; political parties had a peaceful transfer of power as the Republican candidate, Thomas Jefferson, was elected in the 1800 election. This was the first election that occured in which political power was tranferred from one party to another without resistance.
To try and retain some power, the Federalist party added more justices to the Supreme Court, and had Federalists nominated for the positions, helping the Federalists retain some of their power for the next few decades. This recieved plenty of resistance from the Democratic Republican party, because Supreme Court justices kept their position for the remainder of their lives.
Classes read page 294 in the textbook to gain background knowledge on the 1800 election. Then, we discussed how elections were completed, and looked at both electoral and popular votes, and how both types of votes impacted the other, and how they were important towards the election. We then talked about the Twelfth Amendment and how it made it mandatory to vote for the President and Vice President seperately.
